BoA Safety Rules

Safety

Archery is quite safe if everyone follows a few simple rules!

1. Never draw a bow with an arrow nocked to the string anywhere other than astride the shooting line.

2. Always point the bow and arrow toward the target when loading (nocking) an arrow to the bowstring!

3. Always aim at the target - arrows can go a long way!

4. Anyone not shooting should stay well behind the shooting line.

5. Do not start shooting until the Field Captain indicates that it is safe to do so - usually a single whistle blast.

6. Do not move in front of the shooting line until shooting is complete. The Field Captain will indicate that it is safe to move to the targets by two whistle blasts.

7. If you are shooting and hear the command `FAST' or another single whistle blast then you MUST stop shooting. If you are at full draw do not release the arrow - just relax the draw whilst lowering the bow-arm (i.e. `come down ). Perhaps someone entering the range area, a stray animal or perhaps some problem at the target area caused this reaction. So, if you see a potential danger in the range area then YOU should shout 'FAST' - the Field Captain may not have seen the danger you have seen!

8. Always walk to the target to collect arrows. Look for and avoid stepping on arrows which have landed in front of the target.

9. If someone is withdrawing arrows from the target then stand well away! The arrow often frees `jerkily' and could cause injury to anyone standing close-by (particularly the eyes).

10. If you cannot find your arrows everyone should help you to find them. Lost arrows must be reported to the groundsman. Tell the Field Captain.

Etiquette

Here are a few simple rules generally observed:

1. Never touch another archer's equipment without permission.

2. If you damage another archer's equipment you should pay for the damage immediately and courteously.

3. Keep quiet behind the shooting line.

4. Do not pick up or draw another archer's arrows unless asked they may want to know where the arrows went and will not thank you for destroying the evidence.

5. Wait until all scores are taken before retrieving arrows behind the target.
